“We had some issues with the water.”
The owner tried hard to fix this during our stay, which more or less resolved the issue. It did require quite some work so it seemed. It was mentioned at arrival that the water is not drinkable so only to be used for showering. Fresh drinking water is supplied in bottles, so be aware of this. On the Sykes site it is mentioned there is a dishwasher, oven, (cosy) dining area and sleeping sofa. None of these are there. If you expect to eat at a table, you won't find that there (no table, no chairs to fit at a table). We did mention the missing dishwasher to sykes, they now have taken that from the site. Also, most doors jam, there is some leaking at the door to the bedroom. The surrounding area is messy, lots of debris like old doors, gas tanks, metal scrap, etc. and not much of the large area can be used due to high grass, fenced off, steep slope. Parking should be done carefully, as it is very easy to sink away in the loose gravel. All in all, it is very quiet, beautiful views on mountains (and deer!) and in general a cosy accommodation. But when staying there for an extended period, you notice things are not working well. Advice is to take your own sharp knife if you plan to cook there, since there is no way of cutting meat or anything. Same for hanging clothes to dry, there are no (wooden) pegs so we bought our own.
Thanks for your feedback, we do appreciate constructive comments.
As advised, the non drinking water is off the hill but filtered and particularly during heavy periods of rain requires more frequent filter changing, which we did as soon as you reported it. As you say plenty of bottled drinking water is supplied free of charge, and replenished as required.
Rather than respond to every item, I would advise that the accommodation is cosy high standard shepherd huts and not a cottage, therefore the space is used carefully without cluttering, however I can confirm that the settee in the entrance sitting area is a bed settee. This is in addition to the bedroom which has king size double bed.
The shepherd huts sit in 20 acres of land with no immediate neighbours, and the remaining 50 acres is family owned, which all has free access. As you can appreciate, we cant cut all the grass, and therefore maintain the areas to sit and enjoy the surrounding views. The area referred too with 'doors and metal is a gated area which is part of the old stable block which is been dismantled. This area has a locked gate with no access and is part of the farm!. We understand and accept that everyone has different wants and expectations, and we are sorry that on this occasion, it didn't completely suit you.
