“We loved our week at Blackadder Lodge.”
As things turned out, it was the best possible choice for our June holiday, Our car broke a spring during our outward journey, so we were 5 days without transport, meaning that we had to find things to do from the doorstep. It couldn't have been better. There were two listed walks, so we tried them, and greatly enjoyed them, The Whiteadder walk could be extended to Hutton, and on to Paxton, where we had lunch at an excellent dog-friendly pub, The Cross. Beyond Paxton, was Paxton House, easily within reach, so we went there too - dog-friendly gardens and tea-shop. The Blackadder Walk ended at the Allenton Arms - we had an absolutely delicious lunch in the garden. We also walked to Chirnside - making a detour off the Whiteadder Walk - and stocked up with a few extra provisions. The garden was big and sunny, but with shade too, for the hot afternoons when we weren't walking - just had to watch our lurcher, though, because deer regularly visited the garden, and chasing deer is our dog's favourite occupation.
As an additional note, we have very comfortable beds at home, but the double bed at Blackadder Lodge was something else. You must try it! Oh, we played Scrabble and I beat my husband for the first time in 52 years.
