“Beautiful cabin and very well equipped.”

All the beds were very comfy and nicely styled. The cabin is very clean for being dog friendly. On the day of arrival the place was warm and welcoming and a lovely welcome gift which was appreciated by dogs too. The cabin is situated a short walk to main reception and other facilities on the site. Windermere is only two miles away. Would recommend and will be back again.

“We stayed at Black Dog Lodge for 4 nights and wow!”

This is a home away from home, the most tasteful decorated lodge we have stayed in, with excellent facilities and close to the marina. The location was perfect for exploring all local areas Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere. “Great cabin with all you need for a good break, very comfortable with a thoughtful welcome pack to greet us on arrival, great location and would happily stay again, if any gripe, would have liked the dishwasher to work but we did eat out every day so other than basics did't phase us and certainly didn't ruin the break in anyway as the lodge has so much going for it, book it up, you wont be disappointed.”

“Really enjoyed our stay.”

The lodge was lovely and spotlessly clean. We don't normally stay in dog friendly accomodation as I have a dog allergy ( our friend was bringing his hypoallergenic dog.) and I was a little concerned but I had no problems. The location and the site itself was ideal. We would of liked to have done a bbq but couldn't find anywhere that sold disposable ones due to the fact they are banned in the National park so maybe worth mentioning on info to bring one with you. Would definitely recommend to our friends and family.

“Absolutely amazing, well kitted out lodge.”

We all had such a great time there last week. It really was ike a home from home with everything supplied, and the welcome food and drink was really appreciated. Although not an issue, it would have been better had the jets worked on the hotub but overall a massive 10 out of 10.

“We had a fantastic week stay in black dog lodge for our honeymoon.”

The lodge was spotless and has everything you need. The beds and new sofas were super comfortable. It was like a home from home. We were left a lovely gift for us and the dog too. My only recommendations would be to upgrade the hot tub as the jets were very weak, when I reported this to the hot tub man that visited daily he advised it’s because it’s an old tub so won’t be powerful anymore. Also it would be nice to have a guest book/information pack, I like to read these for recommendations of places to visit. It would also be nice if you could pay for early check in, we got married in a near by hotel prior to our stay and we asked if we could pay for early check in and this wasn’t an option. We would love to come back again, the lodge is in a nice location very close to the lake! We were very sad to be leaving yesterday.

“Lovely lodge in a great location.”

The dog blanket was a lovely touch alongside the treats. Having an air fryer was a nice touch and we used this every day. Really nice furniture outside on the decking and the hot tub was lovely. Would be happy to book this lodge again.

“The lodge was really lovely,very clean and comfortable,the only thing I would suggest to make it perfect is a privacy screen around the corner of the hot tub as you are in full view of all the people and traffic passing by.”

Also maybe bigger towels would be useful. Everything else was great ,just how it should be .

“Had a wonderful stay been on this site 5 times now love Windermere.”

Beautiful place very clean has everything you need the only downside is no tv in the master bedroom, we do like to have tv on in bed to fall asleep to (drowns partners snoring out) ha. “Absolutely fantastic again, previously visited in july.”

Everything was just perfect ,everything in the kitchen you need and more……. The bed was so comfortable, lovely clean bedding. Plenty wardrobe space, shower in en-suite just fabulous. “We really enjoyed our stay in this fantastic property we have stayed here before and could not fault anything everything was spot on.”

With the weather being so hot the only negative thing was there was no fan and the lodge got so hot with the sun being on it all day .The park dosnt hire them so we bought one as one of our party has breathing difficulties. Another point we had someone come to change the gas regulator they were doing all of the lodges on the park and the park didn't inform us we were a bit unsure of this and a little concerned as if we were not in they would of just entered the property unknow to us.this isn't a reflection on the property or our stay it was just lack of communication it would of been nice to be informed as the lodge was our responsibility during our stay. Overall we had a fantastic time and we were sad to leave the lodge is a credit to the owners and we will definitely be back making memories to remember thank you .

“I appreciate this was pet friendly, but the place was covered in black dog hairs,especially on the very squeeky sofas and cushions ,they where even in the toilet, the decking was thick with cobwebs which is unavoidable this time of year but you would think it would be clean on arrival , the key lock only opened on arrival and we couldnt return the key to leave ,as it just wouldnt open.”

The hot tub lad came every day to check it which was good, on returning home i have had an email saying theres an faint orange mark on the white bedding and they are taking £34 out of my bank account without my permission to replace the bed set , i suggested we didnt mark any bedding , but in all fairness maybe buy a bottle of Ace to remove the so called mark , i am really upset by this as i know for a fact i stripped all bed before leaving and there were no stains /marks etc just dog hairs ,the good points it was in a lovely location , after paying £850 for 4 nights i am really shocked they are trying to get more money out of me for a full bed set for a stain on a quilt cover we didnt put there

Thank you for taking the time to review Black Dog Lodge. We are disappointed you found dog hairs on the furniture, as our lodge is dog friendly there are always a few hairs that escape the clean but we will certainly look into this. With regards to the bedding, our cleaning team reported the stain on the new white bedding after three attempts to clean it with product. This is the only information we have, and as you are aware, the booking has a housekeeping bond of Â£100. I am sure you would be disappointed to see a stain on the bedding on arrival so unfortunately this bedding is now unusable hence us requesting payment for a replacement. “Went to black dog lodge with our 2 teenage kids for a long weekend the only trouble was it wasn't long enough.”

The welcome pack was a lovely touch. The hot tub was ready to use when we arrived. It was spacious and relaxing, just perfect after a long walk on the fells. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty wardrobe and draw space. The kitchen had everything you needed. Angus, our dog loved the spacious lounge and decking area. He doesn't normally settle out of his own environment but he was so chilled and he loved his little treats thank you. The site clubhouse and restaurant was good. They cater well for families with young children. We'll definitely be back.

“This is a lovely lodge which is well-maintained, clean and spacious.”

It’s suitably equipped for a holiday lodge (though no bath sheets which would be useful). We had a lovely holiday overall but the Parkdean clubhouse (which has a restaurant/bar, swimming pool, small shop) really let things down. We have been to White Cross Bay 3 times before but we felt standards had dropped this year. The service in the restaurant was appalling with longs delays, missing items and a limited menu. Meals have to be ordered via an App and downloading and using it was really difficult given that the Wi-Fi is useless and it’s difficult using even 3G/4G on site. On one occasion, we sat in the restaurant for 15 minutes trying to get the app to work and eventually gave up, and went to the bar to try and order. When we got there, we were told that all meals were sold out and there is absolutely no food available. This was at 7pm! On another occasion, the bar closed at 10pm because staff wanted an early finish despite there being customers still present. I’d have no hesitation in recommending this lodge, but I don’t think I’d recommend White Cross Bay again. By the way, the Lee really is no Wi-Fi availability so bear this in mind if you need to do any work.

“We have stayed at this lodge about 3 years ago - we were not disappointed - the lodge was so clean and fresh when we walked in.”

The beds are so comfy and we loved the hot tub - only small issue which isn’t the owners fault is that over the years we have stayed at White Cross we have always been able to get WiFi - this time it wouldn’t even connect us even for a few minutes it was really bad - also the club house had closed the kitchen all the time we were there, not sure why- there was no real reason given so we couldn’t get any food from there. However we loved the lodge and the gesture of the hamper was amazing so thoughtful - would def stay here again- thank you for our lovely stay.

“The lodge and park were stunning and faultless The four night stay was ruined by building work either side of our lodge from 8.”

30-5pm everyday due to a veranda built hand built from scratch using nail guns, saws and drilling one side then a new lodge being located and put together the other side. The builders were loud, swearing and had the radio on which made us uncomfortable resulting in not being able to use our veranda or hot tub and take advantage of the weather In short holiday was ruined and we will not be using Sykes again after they refused to cooperate in a resolution. The basket of goodies is a nice touch. We have stayed here before so knew it would be of a very good standard. The only negative about the lodge is the dreadful WiFi reception. Hit and miss and only one device can be used at a time. Apart from that a lovely stay.

“Cleaning wasn't the greatest, with black mould in the main bedroom and dog biscuits left on the floor.”

The TV didn't work from our arrival. After asking the staff at the main reception on 2 seperate occasions I was finally told sykes has their own engineers to look at it so the engineer attended quite quickly he was very pleasent and went to the office himself as he could not diagnose the issue. He was informed that they knew about the issue and would have someone out to fix the issue. No one came and i was left without a TV or WiFi for the remainder of my stay.

“Absolutely beautiful place.”

Clean and very well looked after. Exactly as the pictures appear. Couldn't fault it one bit, our two young daughters loved it! Interior was lovely, lots of space, beds we extremely comfy (probably better than home) and an all round perfect getaway. We didn't go in the club much as the entertainment wasn't on and we got asked to leave before 10pm but we enjoyed it in the accommodation so wasn't to bothered. All in all, we would highly recommend and book again! Our friends and family are already wanting to book! :)

“Cleanliness is needing attention.”

We have been to this lodge previously and was more of a 5star then, now looking about 3star. The windows/windowsills/blinds and doors didn't look as if been touched for weeks(very dirty),the bedding was clean but very washed out/grubby looking and on departure when stripping the beds the actual duvets were all stained and grubby. Also there was half used soap dispensers and shower gels in bathroom/kitchen (which with covid should be thrown away and new ones put in place for the next customers), same applies to the toilet rolls, obviously what was left from previous occupants was just left and none spare!! Just feel with what we paid wasn't up to its usual high class standards as before.

“In a Covid world the cleaning was extremely poor.”

There were old sweets under a chair, when we walked in all doors were open except the second bedroom. Never thought anything of this until I went to put the cases in opened the door and was met with a smell of vomit. I’d taken my own dettol spray anyway with Covid so I sprayed round the room hoping to be able to use it but the stench was too much it made me feel ill and my young child was not sleeping in there. Very disappointed considering how much we paid. We usually always book for next year before we leave but not this time. We won’t be back and certainly not to this lodge.

“Hot tub not working sink blocked hover full dust.”

Cooker hood dirty when turned on dripping dirty oil toilet brush in big bathroom had poo and dirty handle we reported all this lm disabled and haven't been out my family was with me and was upset by me being upset.l was told we would be refunded for hot tub haven't yet please look into for me

Thank you for your feedback. I have looked in to your case further and I am sorry to hear of the issues regarding the Hot Tub on arrival. Unfortunately a part was needed to resolve this issue, which I am pleased was fitted and the hot tub was available for the remainder of your stay. I can confirm a refund has been issued for the days whereby this was unavailable, which I hope will reach you shortly. Our maintenance team member did investigate about the blocked sink reported, however a blockage couldn’t be located, which was reported back to you. Regrettably, the cleaning issues you have raised where reported after your departure. Had these been brought to our attention, we would have been happy to arrange the return of the cleaner to address these for you. Property Owner

WINDERMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Kendal 8.7 miles.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

Black Dog Lodge is accessed by 4 steps. The lodge is then all on the same ground floor level.

A travel cot will fit in the twin bedroom only and is provided for you along with a highchair.

White Cross Bay has its own onsite facilities. You will need to purchase a complex pass from reception which includes the use of the pool, entertainment and access to bar and restaurant. The prices are subject to change by park management.

Disposable BBQ's must be used on the stand provided.

There is a Good Housekeeping Bond of £100 for this property.

Park Rules and Operations – White Cross Bay

All holiday parks are owned and managed by a separate company to ourselves. Lake District Lodge Holidays has no association with the owners of these parks or responsibility for the provision of services they offer. At certain times of year, there maybe a reduction in those services, which is outside of our control.

Commercial vehicles, caravans, camper vans, Hen or Stag parties are not permitted onsite. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and are not be left alone in the lodges at any point during your stay.

You will be staying on an operational holiday park, which means work may be undertaken from time to time by the park owners during your stay. Although Lake District Lodge Holidays will always try to inform guests in advance if something may impact on a stay and if we have prior knowledge. We cannot be held responsible or accept any liability for park operations of which are outside of our control and which we have no knowledge of.

Any issues relating to a stay at a privately owned lodge should be reported back through Lake District Lodge Holidays as the park are not responsible for managing the lodge or booking for private sublet guests during their stay.

Hot Tubs

For the comfort of other holidays guests we request that noise is kept to a minimum. Usage of the hot tub is between 10am and 10pm only. If you are found to breach these timings then you may be asked to vacate the park with no call for a refund.

All hot tubs are maintained to strict industry standards and HSE guidelines by separate qualified independent contractors on behalf of the property owners. This includes changing the water between guest stays and checking the water condition on a regular basis.

Whilst every effort is made to have a hot tub ready for immediate use by the arrival time stated, this may not always be possible. In such cases the hot tub will usually be ready to use later that day unless otherwise advised. In such cases no compensation or refund is payable unless the hot tub is faulty.

Information about using a hot tub safely is provided at all lodges with a hot tub and on a prominent notice near the tub. All hot tub users should wear an appropriate bathing suit. Usage of a hot tub is at a guests own risk and Lake District Lodge Holidays accepts no liability for anything which may happen to a guest as a direct result of using a hot tub.
