Location
Hawkshead in the Lake District is world-renowned for its connections with the children's author Beatrix Potter, and has the feel of a village steeped with Lakeland history.
Romantic Lakeland cottages, pretty cobbled streets, lovely local shops and cosy Lakeland pubs make for endless days of pottering and exploring the village.
The surrounding landscapes are full of leisurely Lake District walking routes.
One of our favourite easier walks is around nearby Tarn Hows.
Grizedale Forest is great for the whole family, with sculpture trails and cycling routes, whilst nearby Esthwaite Water is excellent for fishing.
Hawkshead lies between Windermere and Coniston, so provides an excellent location for a varied Lake District self-catering holiday.
Once you've explored the pretty village, you're set for easy drives to all the must-see areas of the Lakes.
